In a morning incident near Eco Park in Kolkata, 50-year-old Gautam Karmakar, an employee of a sweet shop, was hit by a speeding bike while crossing the main road. Despite two consecutive red signals, the bikes were racing at a high speed of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour, resulting in Gautam's injuries.
Constable Palash Vaidya, responsible for operating the traffic signal, attempted to apprehend the situation but was allegedly assaulted by a girl who got off one of the bikes.
The crowd, angered by the incident, took to the streets, leading to a clash with the police. The young man involved in the assault was eventually caught by the mob and handed over to the police after a struggle.
